Play On! Update. . .

Dear Friends,

Nice work today.  Tomorrow....you need to be off book.  It is a must!

Due to the fact that we ended rehearsal early today, no one should be using their scripts tomorrow.  Use your extra time wisely.

Please make note when rehearsals end.  Do not make plans for any time before the end of a rehearsal.

I understand that we are all tired....but keep the bar high.

Your crew came in at 10:30 a.m. and worked straight through the day.

You too worked last night and came in ready to rock.

Momentum and creative energy equals a great show.

Tickets are on sale now...urge your friends/family to purchase them.

See you tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

Thoughts. . . .

Hello Cast,

In all seriousness, how can we move forward from tonight?

I do know that there is a lot on everyone's plate.

Life is filled with challenges....it is difficult at times, but also glorious.

You have the opportunity to share with the community something very different and entertaining.

It is imperative that we get off book as soon as possible-we are not reacting/acting/creating at the moment.  We are stressed, behind the eight ball-searching for lines.  You are far better actors to settle for what is happening on stage right now.

You are a  talented group-raise the bar....NOW!

The ball is in your court....our success depends on all of you.

Come to rehearsal energized, focused and committed.

The audience deserves to see you at your best!

Play On! Update. . .

Hello All,

Just some reminders~

1. Bios are almost past due.

I cannot accept any bios past Wednesday night.
There is so much to do, the last thing that the production crew needs is to worry about the programs.

2.  If you want a t-shirt let me know asap.  I should have the final design by midweek.

3. ADS!  We have three.  Up  to  you about this portion of the show.

The Ads do sustain us-donations do as well.

4.  No scripts starting Tuesday evening.  I will let you know which Act we will be focusing on when we meet Tuesday evening.

5.  The ticket link will be live very soon.  I will let you know when that happens.

6.  From now on-NO ONE can be late for rehearsal.  ALL phones must be put on the piano.
We MUST begin rehearsals on time.

7  You have an AMAZING and DEDICATED CREW!!!  I am so very thankful for the time and energy that they have given to our production. Make sure you thank them early and often.

8.  You all were wonderful during our Theatre Horizon workshop.  So very cool to watch you grow and explore your characters as well as yourselves, as actors.  Keep moving forward.
Incorporate what you learned this past weekend into your work on stage.

See you all soon!

Lys

2010
What time of year:
Spring
March……

1982-Para-troopers?

Polly (teacher) /Henry (plumber)
Meet in acting class-B.U.
Live in NY
Married after school at the age of 22
No kids
Age: 55
Henry resents Polly because she cannot have kids

No therapy-group activity-join the theater company
Polly-emotional eating disorder
Henry-sleeps on the couch sometimes-and in separate beds.
Polly and Smitty!!!

Henry/Saul-agrees with what he is saying about Polly
Henry/Billy-doesn’t care for him at all.

Billy
(age-25) and Saul (age-45) are best-buds.
“Bro-mance”
Worked together before.
Billy feels bad for Henry…enjoys the jokes that Saul makes.
New England college…accounting…theater program.
Only child-came from a wealthy background….feels superior to the rest of the cast.
Maybe respects Gerry.

Saul
Likes Billy-goes out and hangs.
A bit nervous around Henry.  Picks on Polly because she is an easy target.  Polly’s gloating is annoying.
2 older brothers-was being picked on.  Just behaving how he was treated by his siblings.

Gerry (age 38)
Aggie and she grew up together in Albany.
Passion for theater.  Wanted to go in to the city.
Name of the theater company:  Albany Manor
Loved to act.   Married to Frank.  Kept her married name.
Was asked to direct Albany Manor-for over 10 years.

Aggie
Military Family-no college.  Signed up-boot camp.  Shaved head.  Father was strict
Brother…likes order-should show her military background through posture/gestures.
2 separate work stations for the set? Used to male power figures.  Pacing.

Violet- (age 22)
Grew Up in Albany.  Upper Middle Class-one sister…starred in her high school shows. Intimated from all the talent in the city.  Lives in an apartment with two friends.  Barrista…insecure about talent. On and off relationship with Billy-same college. Freshman/Sophomore….Junior/Senior year.

Smitty (17)
Albany…high school.  Only child-overbearing mother.  Major tests-bio.  Needs to be a perfectionist.  Saul drives her to practice.  Can’t be independent.  Modest outfits.  Nerves getters.  Childish mannerism.

Phyllis and Polly
Teacher’s lounge-assistant director to the high school.  Bond because we never had friends.  Needs moments to shine.  Gets Phyllis to write a play for her.

Phyllis (age 56) took many years to write the play.  Re-acquainted friends.
Friendship was genuine then fake.  Traditional “old fashioned” family.  Teacher/house wife.  Pottery classes….tried to find “herself”.  Plays the flute.
Gullible-chasing dreams.  Low self-esteem-over compensates for that.

Louise (age 31)
Intern to Aggie/Gerry.  Divorced family.  College in N.Y.
Grew up in Albany.  No family-but theater folks. Out of college at 20.  Resent actors. MEGAPHONE! Fit in with everyone else.  Respects Gerry/Aggie.
