Quick Reminder. . . .

Light Crew: tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Notes and Rehearsal Update. . . . . March 1st!

Really good work today!!

Take a moment to read the notes.
We start tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
Please be ready for warm-ups at that time.

Act 1 ran 50 minutes...Act 2 was 1 hour and 5 min. Keep things moving. Just a few memory gaps. You guys are all amazing.

I hope YF was fun tonight. Let me know how it went. I took time to be with the family. I was sorry to have missed it.
Get some rest folks!!!!

Act 1 Notes:
1. Charlie-please be in the audience right after house lights go off.
2. Kayleigh-great beginning. Very strong.
3. Dan-nice reaction to Kayleigh's "King John" line
4. SWhitney-great job on music cue "Jesus is just alright"
5. Charlie-great Beatles today
6. Dan-good response to Charlie's commenting on all the different musicals.
7. Michael-watch your hands. Can you come up with a "stance" for your character...so your hands are not always moving?
8. Dan-"buzz kill" louder.
9. Michael-if you miss your line-don't say "no". Don't comment at all-just keep going.
10. No talking backstage or in the light booth!!!!!!
11. Charlie-volume and diction-especially as Juliet.
12. Charlie-much better kick. Good prep.
13. Charlie-very nice balcony scene.
14. Charlie-great Juliet scream.
15. Charlie-loved the "I don't think so" line.
16. Charlie-don't rush the "second base" bit.
17. Sean-great choice to stand profile-good visual. Nice use of your voice. Good energy. "Manly breast"-just so funny.
18. Ali-couldn't hear anything. Too soft and too fast. Face front and project.
19. Dan-don't forget to run into Charlie when you come back on stage as Romeo. Missed the kick.
20. Dan-loved when you took the knife away from Charlie-so funny.
21. Charlie/Dan-"and Romeo and Juliet are dead"...it is better. Perhaps just sing in unison-don't worry about harmony.
23. Alicia-Good volume. Use the fingers-for "finger lickin' good". Ask for house lights when you offer treats. Bring in treats for tomorrow. You need a spoon for your bowl.
24. Alicia-a bit out of order here-your Tybalt was great!!!
25. Rap Folks-stay in character. The audience will love this-don't smile-keep the attitude going. Please move closer to Sean-there is a huge gap on either side of him.
26. Mike-nice job!
27.Caitlin-come out faster. Move the tempo a bit.
28. Caitlin and Alicia-remind me to show you what I mean about using the arches.
29. Mike-when you left the stage-you came back through the arches and exited stage left (again)? ?????
30. SWhitney-watch the music for when Caesar is killed. Kayleigh and Dan-slow the action down a bit.
31. Charlie and Dan-"mobile"/"noble" was just great!!!!
32. Dan-you lifted one of the snakes on stage-very funny. You were also telling Charlie not to mock Kayleigh...that was great.
33. Kayleigh-time for the sandwiches and monograph please!!!
34. Mattie-Turn your head when you enter as Godzilla-towards the audience. When you leave, turn and give a little pathetic wave. Nice job.
35. Football folks-Do not talk out in the hallway-we hear you!!!!!!
36. Maggie F. and Maria-you were late. Kayleigh-nice cover.
37. Maggie F. mic needs to be on-Robert will now be there to help back stage.
38. Emily-you used to kneel as part of your football schtick. Where did that go?
39. SWhitney-make sure the music is not loud until after all the dialogue is spoken.

Act 2 Notes:
1. Sean-we need more volume.
2. Dan-really nice work.
3. Kayleigh/Dan-couldn't hear "Horatio" and "pistachio".
4. Emily-better. Even more volume.
5. Charlie-"the drugs" just so funny today.
6. Dan-perhaps not say that "Bob: is as common as say.."Muhammad"-how about "Smith"? "Jones"?
7. Note for all actors: if the audience is laughing or applauding-don't cut them off-wait a beat or two.
8. Charlie-"like an onion" say with reverence/awe.
9. Charlie/Dan/Kayleigh-audience participation was better. Keep thinking energy and moving forward with it.
10. Kayleigh-thank you for "thanking" the audience member.
11. Michael-"I'm on fire'-as J would say-More Bane!!!
12. Michael-when you are on stage-you need a "kingly" stance.
13. Caitlin-you need to do something with your hands.
14. Charlie-"this is acting" awesome!!
15. Caitlin and Dan-during your fight scene-didn't Caitlin use the center stairs?
16.Caitlin-keep working on that voice.
17.Michael-nice death (each time)
18. Kayleigh-stay in character-try not too laugh.
19. Dan/Kayleigh-remember to "jump" on the first "faster" section together.

Wow!!!!

J Rocks!!!!!

Dear Wonderful Cast,

What a great day!

Really....you did so well...just a few things
here and there, and of course, learning your lines.

I want to remind you that we will not see J until March 9th.

He will now begin his own rehearsals for an up coming show
in the spring (which we all need to see).

Please join me in thanking J for his expertise, creativity,
experience as an actor and teacher, and for his friendship.

J has become such an integral part of our program, and it is
my hope that our relationship will continue to grow for many
years to come.

J-you rock!!!! We adore you!!!!

You have taught us so
much.......we will rehearse, polish and embrace all that is
Shakespeare until we see you again.

Much love,

Lys

More Notes and requested cuts. . . . . . .

Hello Friends,
I hope you are well.
Much to do for  our upcoming performance
and not much time remaining.

1.  BIOS-no later than tonight (Saturday)
2.  Ads-there are quite a few folks who have not brought in an Ad.  I will start a list after Sunday's rehearsal.
The support that you bring in helps keep the theater department afloat.
Those of you who have not generated an Ad; that is most unfortunate and disappointing.

3. NO SCRIPTS SUNDAY and there after.

4.  Please take note of the following line changes.  It is what it is...make the changes and lets move on:

Pg. 2-Dan, please take out the entire references to drinking.  "That's like two six-packs....to.....Shakespeare and alcohol".

Dan...no flipping of the bird...no"shi**". Please use other descriptives.

Pg.  21-Take out the "blackface" line.

Pg. 27-Kayleigh, you and I have already talked, but so the cast knows:  we are taking out "Ensuing bisexual....to...female genitalia".

Pg. 46-No "falatio".

General notes:
1.  Charlie-can you sing more of the "Baby you can drive my car-" before you move on.
2. SWhit-continue with the Greensleeves music until the word "Prologue".
3. Remember-no samsung joke.
4. Dan-remind us tomorrow exactly when you want the Imogen Heap music
5.Charlie-nice William Tell Overture
6. Ali-remember not to say your lines profile.  Also, in the Rap-say your line front.
7. Alicia...can you increase your volume on "It's a pisser"-Don't talk too profile.
8. Maria-bring Cade to the center arch.
9. Sean-you will need to rehearse Cade's parts starting tomorrow (Sunday)
10.I like the rap without music-yes?  With Michael beat-boxing?
11.  Maria/Maggie-please don't miss your cues!
12.  NO ONE hangs in the music room-keep the hallways quiet-starting tomorrow.
13. Pile-up for the football game-please bring it more center and a bit down-stage.
14. Dan-I would really like to solidify the mash-up by the end of this week and start performing it.
15. The audience participation scene really needs to move-too much ad-libs on Thursday.
16. Please be mindful of all your costumes.
17. Mattie-were you going to bring in a fishing pole?
18. Yusra-you are so good!
19. Charlie-if you say the door is locked-don't open it. (audience stage right-door)
20. Emily-nice volume.  Even more perhaps?
21. Hair-ladies...start thinking about that-no hair on face. With some of you, we can't even see your faces.
22. Remember to come on stage as your character (body language/walking). Caitlin-Emily...it really comes across well when you focus on that. Some of you already do it so well.
J-can you help us focus on that tomorrow?
23. "Smoke Bomb" Kayleigh-make sure we hear you say that.
24. Use the arches.
25. NO TALKING backstage-NO HANGING in the wings!!!!!

Please review J's notes and come tomorrow with good energy, much less talking, no cell phones and ready to have a great run.

This is a wonderful show.  You have taken on quite the task and have raised the bar.  Don't lower it by poor behavior choices and lack of respect for what you have worked so very hard on for the past few months.

11:30 a.m come to school.  We will warm-up, mention any last minute notes and set our props.

If there are changes in time due to weather, I will  post them on the blog and FB book page.

See you all soon!

Lys

Notes, Notes and more Notes. . . . ..

NOTES!
All things considered ... for having been away from the play for so long ... not a bad run. A little too many scripts in hand for a "no-script" run, but not bad, none the less. Let's keep the racket down backstage and in the hall, please. If you have entrances and exits coming up, please be wary of them. I also think there needs to be a cutoff in adding new bits to the show ... talky bits. We're trying to streamline, now, not add more. The more we add, the longer the show is gonna get. The first act came out last night in a little over and hour ... and that's sans Dan's solo at the end. That's a bit long, yeah? Less than a month, y'all, we gotta be on point, okay? Lotta' new notes ... and a lotta' notes I've given before ... but remember, for every note I give, there's thousands of moments in the show that are, indeed, working and that's something to be proud of.
1) Dan, good intro. Nice and casual. If you're gonna do the witchcraft joke, set it up better. Went too fast.
2) Kayleigh ... good for you, too, but please watch your speed. You found a good pace when you got down to the audience.
3) Best "ecce homo" response yet. That's a keeper. Charlie, I'm talking to you.
4) Charlie ... good improv with the hand ... make sure we're not missing "daughter of a roman." Also, what happened to Anne Hathaway/Catwoman and "I don't understand half of what he says." Those jokes are gold. Also, remember, watch your "Uh's", please. When we hear your "Uh's" we as an audience know you're reaching for something.
5) Dan, Charlie ... what happened to "That's dumb." ... ? Bring that back. I like it.
6) The Samsung joke ... it's just not reading. Lys, not sure if you agree with me on this one. We either need to clean it up or let it go.
7) Michael ... do not break character. That is, don't smile and laugh when your entering as the Prince. And learn who's who. Okay? Okay.
8) Dan ... need your quick change to be faster. Have somebody waiting in the wings to change your vest and put your sword belt on. Needs to happen fast, fast, fast.
9) Dan ... looks like we're not getting much light on the lip of the stage ... do me a favor next run ... fall on your side with your face directly to the audience ... like you're sleeping in fetal position ... that may work ... and we can also get some light on your face.
10) I'm back to not liking that "Second base" ad-lib. If you're gonna do it, Charlie, do it fast.
11) This may just be because y'all were searching for lines and I don't wanna sound like a jer when I say this ... but the whole R&J section was draaaaaaaagging last night. We need it light, we need it bubbly, and we need it fast. This is the first show we start the show off with and we gotta set the pace right with it, alright? Alright.
12) Ali - We need your hood up and watch your volume.
13) Charlie that whole vomit sequence needs to go way faster, but I thank you for making your way to the stage quickly.
14) Dan stay on stage when R&J is done so you can present the next play. Charlie, you can still exit.
15) Alicia ... volume got better as the scene progressed, but we gotta start out with that energy, too. I also need a lot less profile from you as well. The more the audience sees your face when you speak, the better.
16) Maria ... say "Really gross ... " and then take Cade ... and remember to throw him onto the middle arch section with the lattice work.
17) Dan ... "What is a Moor?" ... if that could just be clearer, please. Vocally.
18) Othello rap ... Cade, good improvement on your solo lines ... everyone else who has a solo line ... SELL IT ... breath into your belly and let's hear them words!
19) Kayleigh ... after "4 Weddings and a Transvestite" ... walk and talk whilst you get to your place. It fills up dead air.
20) Alicia ... less profile ... you start out great ... notice the Jewish stereotype ... but tell the audience about.
21) To that effect, this is a note for EVERYONE in the comedy section ... less profile ... waaaaaaay less profile.
22) Sean, you can start quicker with your turn in duck-duck-goose.
23) Charlie ... we really gotta hear you wanna say "Macbeth" ... don't go too fast ... we gotta set up that bit properly cause we go on an on about it for a page.
24) Emily ... AMAZING LEFT SHARK.
25) Dan, Charlie, Kayleigh ... first mention of "Hamlet" needs to be clearer.
26) Charlie ... your diction kinda went out the window in that whole last bit after the football game. I want it fast ... and you got that ... but now I need it clear, okay? Okay.
27) Note for me and Lys ... I have an idea for an internal cut to save on time ... I'm just throwing it out there ... I think Dan playing out the first few moments of Hamlet by himself is not necessary. That's just me, though.
28) Dan, we all love the joke ... see if you can find a shorter one that's even cornier.
29) Charlie ... the word "doublet." DUB-LET.
30) Dan, Emily, I'm not feeling the added Alfred lines. Lys may disagree. We either need to clean them up or they gotta go.
31) Michael - MORE BANE.
32) Michael - Don't fidget with your costume.
33) Caitlin - Good voice. Let's keep playing with that.
34) Caitlin - "It is the poisoned cup ... " say that to the audience.
35) Maggie - There's no need for you to exit after you drink from the poisoned cup. You can stay on stage. The poison is slooooooowly working it' way into your system ... you don't realize you've been poisoned until before the line ... "How does the queen?"
And that's all I got today, y'all. Wish I could see y'all tonight, but, alas, I have an audition I need to attend in West Philly. Please keep looking over your lines. Please focus. Please know your entrances and exits. Please don't give Lys a hard time. For those of you all who I've told about volume ... if you feel like you're yelling ... you're not. Need to hear them words! Have a good rehearsal tonight, y'all, and we'll see ya Sunday. Peace.

Notes and more Notes. . . .

Notes!
Nice stuff all around last night, y'all. Remember ... go over your lines (nice job to those of y'all almost or totally off book last night) ... now when your entrances and exits are coming up ... and above all, please, no talking if you're sitting in the audience ... no talking backstage either ... if ya wanna chat it up, go into the hall or in the lobby, but make sure your listening for your cues. Cool? Cool.
1) Dan and Kayleigh ... excellent opening last night. The finest it's ever been. Keep up the good work on that.
2) Kayleigh ... overall, nicely done on the end of the intro ... but don't let your voice get too high when you're getting to the end of it ... I'm not talking volume-wise, I'm talking pitch wise.
3) Charlie ... this is the one time I'm gonna tell you not to rush ... don't rush the intro your improv monologue. Go over the real facts so we can all hear them ... and remember ... watch your "uh's."
4) Charlie ... good on the whole Shakespeare is still alive bit ... last night you said something new, like, "I think he lives somewhere in Britain now." What would be even funnier is if you named some random place in and around Philly, like ... "I think he lives in Manayunk or Conshohocken or something." I don't know, totally up to you.
5) R&J Prologue ... Dan and Charlie ... I think the word "dumb" is funnier than "stupid" ... but that's just me.
6) Kayleigh ... you can start in quicker with your Benvolio stuff ... you don't have to wait for Michael to exit all the way.
7) Charlie ... stay on the chair til "but love" ... you can say the first "but love" from up there ... after that you can come down from off of it.
8) Charlie ... don't anticipate the "virgin" joke. Let it happen, look at who Dan is pointing to, then comment. Went too fast yesterday. Also, that "second base" ad lib? Yeah, it's still not working for me. Heh, sorry, dude.
9) Dan ... hahah, do not say "Congratulations." after the virgin joke.
10) Alicia ... yell on your way when you're gonna go up to fight Romeo ... y'know, like, from the stairs ... overall, really nice scene, though.
11) Ali, make sure your hood is up for the Friar ... completes the Obi Wan joke. Also, could use a wee bit more volume (!!!), but, still, good!
12) Charlie, after your last vomit attack, ya gotta get back to the stage quick. Let's get rid of them Mac Trucks.
13) Dan ... I like it better when I didn't hear the "t" in ,"Oh, s***!" after you drink the poison and see Juliet wake up. It was more of a "Ohhhh, s********* ... " ... I don't know, to me it's just funnier.
14) After the Romeo and Juliet epilogue when both Dan and Charlie exit ... I'm thinking, Dan, you don't even have to leave the stage ... or if you do, bolt right back out into the next scene. Mac Truck moment.
15) Alicia ... you have great vocal strength with Tybalt ... let's see if we can find that same strength for Titus!
16) Alicia ... remember, "Murderer." Not the other word!
17) Cade and Maria ... remember to get ready to make your entrance stage right!
18) Not for me and Lys ... I need to email you that "Psycho" music for the slow mo scene.
19) Alicia ... remember you gotta be in slow mo, too!
20) Maria ... remember that you can't go through the middle arch.
21) Dan, as soon as Titus is done, come right out. Mac Truck.
22) Charlie ... the word extenuate ... ex-ten-u-ate.
23) Dan, Kayleigh, let's pick up the pace a little after Charlie kills himself with the boat.
24) Kayleigh ... the word Elizabethans ... there's no "ians" in it ... E-liz-ah-bee-thens. Nit-picky, I know.
25) Hahah, sorry Kayleigh, I'm picking on you again ... commedia dell-arte ... last word "art-tay" rather than just "art."
26) Charlie, Dan, Kayleigh ... "Four Weddings and a Transvestite!" make sure your in unison and when you're done, rush to where you gotta be.
27) Mattie, remember to face the audience when you say your lines ... this pretty much goes for everyone during the comedy bit.
28) I think we can afford to use the arches waaaaaaay more during the comedy bit.
29) Sean ... YOU ROCK.
30) Cade ... YOU ROCK, TOO.
31) Dan, Kayleigh ... good Caesar cover.
32) Dan, Kayleigh, and Charlie ... I think we need to work the Troilous and Cressida bit ... something is getting lost ...
33) Football scene ... overall, looking good ... I'd like some death rattles to sound out with every death on stage. We'll make this a rule ... if you get stabbed or poisoned ... make a noise and/or sound.
34) Cheerleader-dudes ... I dig your enthusiasm. Make sure we hear Maggie's last lines, though ... or you can come out a wee bit later.
35) Dan, Charlie, Kayleigh ... we really gotta steamroll these last few minutes of act 1 ... the stakes gotta be there ... Charlie doesn't wanna do the show and you're pretty much having a nasty fight. That pace has gotta be there cause folks wanna go to the bathroom ... and we want them to buy concessions.
36) Kayleigh .. make sure we don't lose the words ... "dark" ... "brooding" ... and "vengeance."
37) Sean ... see if you can come out a little earlier while Kayleigh is doing her quick change.
38) Do we have someone assigned to do the ghost-flip from the shopping list?
39) Dan, more Bat-voice with, "YES, YOOOOOOU." Give it a shot.
40) Dan, Kayleigh .... "Would the night were come." ... run, JUMP, then chill.
41) Yusra ... just so the pronunciation is simpler ... it's all one word, one syllable ... "didst."
42) Emily ... great British accent (!!!) ... we just need some vocal energy to back it up.
43) Charlie ... waaaaaaaaay better Ophelia voice. Good job.
44) Dan ... hand-SAW ... not hand-SHAW.
45) Good on "to be or not to be" ... I liked that whole scene ... the not remembering it works so well.
46) The whole Supernatural bit ... paaaaaace, guys, we need to pick it up a lil'. Think more bickering and less having an actual civil conversation.
47) Charlie ... good Hamlet speech ... you don't have to start out so well, though ... you can almost start just reciting it to yourself and then get really into it.
48) First time we hear the word "ID" we reeeeeeally gotta hear it.
49) Gotta work on the pace for the whole audience participation bit ... I think we can go at it a little faster.
And that's all I got. We'll see y'all tonight!

Notes continued~

1.     What happened to the singing of “And Romeo and Juliet are dead…….”?
2.     Alicia-yes…more volume when you are Titus!
3.     Perhaps we need a bit of a filler-to give Kayleigh more time to become “Robin”?
4.     J is much nicer than I.  NO TALKING at all!!! Focus on the play…especially since we have newcomers and many folks missed their cues last night.

5.     Be respectful of the process.  You are responsible for your scripts, costumes and props.  DO NOT TOUCH any props or costumes that are not yours.  NO One may leave until all props and costumes are put back where they belong.  We are a community-we must work together.

6.     “Buzz Kill” from Dan-I really didn’t hear it last night.

7.     I would like not to have too many s***!  Use them wisely.

8.     Charlie-remember “The William Tell Overture”.

9.     Ali-Yes!  Please wear the hood-and perhaps keep your hands in the sleeves as you walk-Remember Obi-Wan!

10. More energy in Act 2-yes…especially with the audience participation.  If “Bob” doesn’t scream-please try and get him/her to.

11. Charlie, please don’t keep putting your leg on the seats.  Lean into the audience members if you want to connect even more.

Just a reminder. . . Soon it  will be too late for me to take any Ads…the program is dependent upon how many Ads you sell.  I only have few.  That will cover posters right now and tickets.  Come on folks!!!

Bios need to be in by next Wednesday!

That is the final due date!!!!

See you all soo,

Lys

You do need to get your bios in (like yesterday) and the Ad drive is off to a good start.

Yusra brought in an ad for Team #1 $45. Way to go!!!!!!

Keep working on those lines and spread the news!

Your show is going to be awesome!!
